In February 2022 we had the opportunity to visit our valued Principals in Dubai, for the first time since the start of the Pandemic.

Our first visit was to Diesel Marine International Dubai’s facilities, based in Dubai’s Al Quoz Industrial Area, where we were warmly welcomed by General Manager Ram Shringi and his team. DMI Dubai are a respected global player and market leader in surface engineering, and have vast experience in servicing and reconditioning industrial and marine engine components. DMI Dubai is a part of the worldwide network of ‘service points’ and ‘exchange pools’ for industrial and marine diesel engine components.

Well revered within the industry, reconditioning capabilities include: piston crowns rods and skirts, exhaust valve spindle and seats, exhaust valve housing & cages, cylinder heads covers and liners. DMI Dubai can recondition engine components of major engine makes such as MAN, Wartsilla, Mitshubishi, UEC and Sulzar including their latest versions.

Specialised services include: onboard ship repair, overhaul services, in-situ services, crankshaft grinding, re-metalling babbitt bearings, spark erosion stud removal, surface technologies, foundry and heat treatment, machining and manufacturing mechanical components, welding and fabrication, and metal stitching.

Whilst touring DMI Dubai’s facilities we were exceptionally impressed by the scale and sophistication of operations as well as the clear drive towards future opportunities through investment in new technologies, machinery, and care and dedication to the workforce. Of particular note was the white metaling capabilities and liner diameter measurement service technology for safe, fast and accurate measuring of cylinder liner wear helping avoid unplanned off-hire and reduce overhauling costs through continual monitoring of the cylinder condition.

“The benefits of using DMI were clear to us; cost and time saving, unrivalled expertise, exceptional quality and second to none customer care. For example; vessels can land their machinery in local ports in UAE with DMI to collect and review before even coming in to a shipyard, and either return directly to the yard when reconditioned/surveyed, or shipped globally following the vessel’s trading pattern. DMI also have a roughly 25 strong team that can ride with the vessel to assess components and overhaul in situ if necessary / possible to avoid unnecessary down time.”
